McWane Ductile expands resilient infrastructure solutions through strategic collaboration with Kubota
COSHOCTON, Ohio (August 3, 2026) ─ McWane Ductile, a leading manufacturer and supplier of Ductile iron pipe for water infrastructure applications, today announced a strategic collaboration with Kubota to offer its Hazard Resilient Ductile Iron Pipe (HRDIP) technology, providing utilities, engineers and contractors with a proven solution designed to strengthen water systems against seismic events and other hazardous ground conditions.
Initially, McWane Ductile will source 6-, 8- and 12-inch HRDIP (GX) from Kubota and stock this material in Utah under the co-brand of McWane Ductile’s HRDIP with Kubota Tech and offer these products to its customers.
Widely deployed throughout Japan, HRDIP has been installed on more than 41,000 miles (66,000 kilometers) of pipeline infrastructure. Developed to withstand earthquakes, liquefaction, landslides, ground subsidence and other challenging conditions, the technology has demonstrated its ability to help utilities maintain water service during and after disruptive events.
HRDIP utilizes a specialized restrained joint design that allows pipelines to flex and deflect while maintaining structural integrity. This helps reduce the risk of joint separation, leakage and service interruptions caused by seismic activity and ground movement.
“Utilities today face increasing pressure to modernize aging infrastructure while building systems that can withstand earthquakes, ground movement and other unexpected challenges without disrupting essential services,” said McWane Ductile Executive Vice President Jeff Otterstedt. “By collaborating with Kubota to bring Hazard Resilient Ductile Iron Pipe technology to North America, we are providing customers access to a proven solution that has demonstrated its performance in some of the world's most demanding environments. As communities place greater emphasis on infrastructure resilience, this partnership expands our ability to help utilities strengthen critical water systems with innovative technology backed by the engineering expertise, technical support and trusted relationships our customers have relied on for generations.”
Hazard Resilient Ductile Iron Pipe complements McWane Ductile's existing portfolio of Ductile iron pipe, fittings, accessories, fabrication services, coatings, linings and technical resources, enabling customers to source a broader range of infrastructure solutions through a single trusted partner.
Kubota has spent decades developing and refining ductile iron pipeline technologies for demanding infrastructure applications worldwide. Its HRDIP system has been recognized for hazard-resilient performance and long-term reliability in real-world applications.
The new hazard-resilient solution will be available through McWane Ductile’s sales and technical support network. Customers will continue to receive application guidance, engineering assistance, project support and responsive service through their existing McWane Ductile contacts.
